It goes light on criticism of capitalism and the only call for government intervention was a mild pitch for better food safety rules.

The thing about biotechnology is how inimical it is to the market economy. Monsanto doesn't want to compete in producing seeds at low cost, it wants a government enforced monopoly (a patent), giving it the right to put out of business any farmers who save their Monsanto seeds or local entrepreneurs who clean them.usfoodpolicyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17098394318544229984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9437268.post-5241091620679855552009-06-20T16:54:30.705-04:002009-06-20T16:54:30.705-04:00The message of this movie (along with lots of othe...The message of this movie (along with lots of other similar books and films) seems to me to be more a commentary on capitalism and regulation of capitalism than of any one particular aspect of the food system. As you said in this post, all the big corporations declined to be interviewed. And yet, you sandwich this whole great post summarizing the issues of the modern food system as described by the movie with two comments about biotechnology.

I remain confused about this selective viewpoint. There is an entire forest of corporations that have what most of us would say is a negative impact on our food, but I guess the Monsanto tree gets in the way.Anastasiahttp://www.geneticmaize.comnoreply@blogger.com
