M...But the USDA said the health hazard was minimal. Much of the meat was purchased for federal nutrition programme. An estimated 37m lbs (16.8m kg) of the beef recalled on Sunday went to school lunch programmes and other federal nutrition programmes, the USDA said. (from BBC news)

It surely amazes me that USDA believes if we dont buy the meat at local supermarket, we are not directly in hazard. This is not a recall. This is humiliating to consumer. Government doesn't have paper trail for their purchased goods? I simply cannot believe such.

Sure, we should all turn vegetarian, as soon as someone find cheap and profitable way to produce more tasteless, modified, and soon engineered vegetables.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9437268.post-11943721813876781712008-02-18T21:47:00.000-05:002008-02-18T21:47:00.000-05:00I'm sure they are reacting this way because Japan ...I'm sure they are reacting this way because Japan has started to import a bit of U.S. beef after a long period of prohibiting it, and anything other than a quick response would shut down exports for years to come.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9437268.post-74988256557973636542008-02-18T13:48:00.000-05:002008-02-18T13:48:00.000-05:00The effectiveness of the Humane Society's video de...The effectiveness of the Humane Society's video demonstrates how technology compels all citizens and organizations to be ever more diligent about complying with laws and regulations.Benjamin Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11543639411820745571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9437268.post-87449967555556110982008-02-18T11:28:00.000-05:002008-02-18T11:28:00.000-05:00Is this the largest recall? How much meat from TWO...Is this the largest recall? How much meat from TWO years ago still exists to be recalled? How much even from six months ago? Aren't we really talking about just a couple of months worth, max?

So, to me, this more symbolic, and, again, would never have occurred if someone hadn't taken video exposing their practices. Which means it still goes on how many other places? Why shouldn't all meat be recalled then?

And as one of the "public", I have little confidence in the USDA; feeling they continue to serve the interests of Big Food, not the American public.

Btw, it would be interesting to see if parents find out that there school was serving this meat and got Really Angry. I mean, you would think this would happen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9437268.post-45615184331445192462008-02-18T10:52:00.000-05:002008-02-18T10:52:00.000-05:00The case for a healthier and more sustainable food...The case for a healthier and more sustainable food system could not be clearer in light of this record recall. The combination of cruelty to animals and dangerous food is not isolated; it is endemic in a system that prizes profit above all else. The filth of factory farms has no place in a healthy society and should be replaced by family-scale farms and organic farming standards.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
