" If generic food advertising programs for these commodities didn't exist then these numbers would be much lower, which they SHOULD BE. To say the "caloric intake has changed for these categories since 1970." We all know the American diet was poor in the 70's, ESPECIALLY to the over consumption of the meat, dairy, eggs foods. Comparing America's currently poor diet to a previously EVEN POORER diet blows a hole in the entire basis to the rebuttal. <BR/><BR/>The meat, dairy, and egg industries fought for years for the four equal food groups (ultimately it was changed to the food pyramid) and now they continue to urge more Americans to eat more of their products so they can generate more income. The meat, dairy and egg industry doesn't care if the American public eat healthy, why should they? It's all about the greenbacks and market share as Prof. Kaiser points out. His job is to help generate income and maintain market share for meat, dairy and egg farmers. If the American public are dumb enough to fall for it. Let them become obese.
